The history of Oakland Park has been stored in dusty cardboard boxes in garages, sheds and storage rooms until now. With the release of the “Images of America: Oakland Park,” by Anne E. Sallee and the Oakland Park Historical Society, the first installment on the history of our beloved city, from remote farm land to urban downtown is coming to life in the pages of a new book, now available.
In the Arcadia publication, “Images of America: Oakland Park,” pictures of Oakland Park’s history are compiled from private collections, city archives, collections of the Broward County Historical Commission, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society and the Oakland Park Historical Society and sprinkled liberally with memories and recollections of the city’s pioneers and residents to create an informative and fascinating peek at moments from the past, in the area known as Colohatchee by the Seminoles, Floranada by a Countess with vision and Oakland Park by the farming settlers.
